EYC PRESENT… EGO

EYC: Why that tag?
One of my first names was WYDO or WEADO, as a shortcut for Black Widow. It was a bit like a superhero name, and I did my first throwies and pieces with these letters in the middle of the nineties.

EGO came spontaneously, a few years later I guess, and it immediately appealed to me.
Faster, stronger, best as superheros name, ah, ah !

It was also one of the fundamental components, in my view, of our practice, while the other names around me at the time often had no particular significance.

Although the letters were not necessarily the most easy to write, I persevered and kept this name until today…

EYC: Which ones are your favourite colors and letters?

Ah, my favourite colors… Do I have favourite colors ? Probably, even if I often use those I have in stock…
I guess I prefer pinks, purples, yellows or oranges than blues or greens. The warm colors, so.
On the other hand, I usually do not use or little brown and beige…

At the moment I love painting negative pieces, with white outlines and galactic effects, but it also depends on which style I do: I guess I will paint some funky pieces in the coming weeks, and I prefer then black outlines on simple flashy fillings…

At the moment I experiment a lot of different styles, so I guess I will have to test a lot of new and different color combinations…

About letters, I guess my absolutely favorite one is the E.
Fortunately, this is the first of my name, ah, ah !
I’m really in love with it, so many possible variations uppercase, lowercase and others…

And of course I also love the R, that I’m used to add at the end of my name to throw it outward and confer a form of symmetry with the E, just as, in the past, I often wrote Egoner, especially in the form of handstyles…

To tell the truth I never really liked the idea of finishing my pieces by an O, but I will do a few tests in this direction soon …

I also love K, S, M, A or B, and I guess I love all these fucking 26 letters, because I love this game and I love throwing wild pieces and sophisticated letters as I would put a smashing dunk from the free throw line the way of Michael Jordan…

However, as much writers surely, I admit to love a little less the U, the V or evidently the X, except maybe for movies…

EYC: Do you follow any pattern or rule when you do your pieces or to connect your letters?

Ah, here is coming the most complicated question…

I don’t think I really follow any rule, but it is true that subconsciously I reproduced for a few years in my pieces a fairly typical structure.

Thus E and R tend to frame smaller G and O in a very horizontale structure, while a crown or a ring, or both, tend to give a vertical impulse to avoid fixing the whole in a too linear aspect…

Whether I make wild, funky or even ignorant style, this structure seems recurrent.

It is probably in this, and also in the sometimes manic cleanliness of my works, that art appears as a revealer of the psychic structure of individuals…

We could derive rather quickly because the question opens up very interesting perspectives, but it would not be obvious to formulate in a language that is not mine …

So, just enjoy the pics, join me on IG and plunge into the twists and turns of my tortured mind…
